April Gardening Jobs Checklist

There are plenty of jobs to be getting on with in the garden to get ready for the Spring and Summer seasons.

Here’s your April checklist to help you get started:

Weed your borders and clear them of any stones, old roots etc.

Clean the greenhouse to get rid of pests and diseases and allow more light in.

Deadhead early spring-flowering bulbs by removing the flowerheads. Allow the foliage to die naturally.

Stake flowering perennials that need support, like Peonies.

Pruning: Rose bushes, Lavender and Cornus.

Dig soil and level it to get it ready for planting.

Sow under cover: salads, lettuce, tomatoes and cauliflowers.

Sow outside: peas, carrots, beetroot, cabbages, parsnips and broad beans.

Plant out: potatoes, onions and garlic.

Plant summer bulbs for July/August colour.

Sow lawn seed, repair bare patches and remove any moss.

Mow your lawn regularly as required.
