To sow and grow
Sow sunflowers outdoors where they are to flower, 1.5cm deep, directly into finely prepared garden soil which has already been watered. Sow two seeds together every 30cm. Garden seedlings usually appear in 14-21 days. Remove the weaker plant, which can be transplanted elsewhere in your garden if desired. Water well until young plants grow and are well established in your garden.

Or sow sunflowers indoors 1.5cm deep, place seeds individually in small pots of compost. Water seeds well and place in a cold frame or greenhouse. Keep the compost moist. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 30cm apart.

Edible: Seeds harvested from grown plants can be used in baking. Packet seeds are not for consumption.
