Rootrainers are the ideal way to help you grow healthy plants with strong root structures by encouraging optimum root formation. The rectangular shape of each cell provides a greater surface area and the grooves allow more roots to develop on the outside of the plug.

Air-pruning takes place in all our Rootrainers and works by encouraging the roots to race down the grooves in the cells and quickly emerge through the drainage holes. The tips then naturally die off and side roots begin to develop higher in the cell. As a result, a super root system is formed.

Maxi Rootrainer

The Maxi Rootrainer has 40 cells per tray that open like a book for easy transplanting without root disturbance. The grooves are designed to direct roots straight down and to avoid pot-bound plants with the air-pruning system. The Maxi Rootrainer is reusable.

Ideal for broadleaved trees grown on larger cycles and plants destined for dry sites.

Deep Rootrainer

Deep Rootrainers are suitable for propagating plants which have deep fast-growing roots. The 12cm deep cells open like a book for easy transplanting without root disturbance. Grooves direct roots straight down. The Deep Rootrainer is reusable. Available as a pack of 1 or 2, and replacement books are available in packs of 8.

Ideal for sweet peas, runner beans, broad beans, French beans, sweetcorn and strawberries.

Rapid Rootrainers

The Rapid Rootrainer has a cell depth of 8cm and is designed so each cell opens like a book for easy replanting without root disturbance. The Rapid Rootrainers are reusable and can last for years.

Ideal for all bedding and container plants, salads, herbs and cuttings.

Compact Rootrainers

These user-friendly Compact Rootrainers have all the features of the original rootrainers. They have 20 cells, each with a depth of 8cm. The grooves direct the roots straight down while encouraging more roots. Cells open like a book to make transplanting an easy process. Books are held in their own slots which allows more space for the plants as they grow.
