Tortrix Moth Trap

Caterpillars of the Carnation Tortrix and Cyclamen Moth attack a wide range of ornamental plants they bind the leaves causing damage and stopping growth.

Once damage is seen, control is very difficult as the caterpillar is protected by the 'webbing'.

Damage is commonly seen on a wide range of plants including: Asparagus Fern, Bay, Begonia, Camellia, Carnations, Citurs, Crassula, Cyclamen, Ivy, Kalanchoe, Mimosa, Oleander, Perlargonium, Plumbago, and Peach.

The Tortrix Moth Trap uses a pheromone to catch the male moth.

When to use the trap
Moths fly during the day, in early summer and again in early Autumn. In a heated greenhouse or conservatory they may be active all year round.

How to use the trap
Assemble the trap, insert sticky base sticky side up, remove a lure from the foil sachet and lay in the centre of the sticky area. The trap should be suspended above the plants which are at risk.

Check the trap frequently. As soon as one moth is caught, spray the plants with a suitable insecticide. Spray again every 2-3 weeks while moths continue to be caught.

In a small greenhouse, with low populations, the trap may give sufficient control without the need to spray. Continue to monitor, remembering to change the lure and base after 5 weeks. (Dispose of the old lure and base well away from the trap.)

Note: Replacement lures and bases are available as a 'refill kit'.
