Pea Moth Trap
Provides a warning when there is a problem with pea maggot and allows sprays to be applied at the correct time

The Problem
Pea moth fly from late May until mid July. The mated female lays eggs on the flowers or young pods. The eggs hatch after 2 to 3 weeks into maggots which quickly burrow into the young pod, where they feed and grow making the peas inedible.

How the trap works

The trap uses the scent of the female moth to attract and catch male moths.

How to use the trap

The trap should be set up when the pea crop is flowering, but not before the end of May. The 'lure' should be removed from the sachet and laid on the sticky base. The trap should be suspended from a stake, level with the top of the crop.

IT IS IMPORTANT to check the trap every 2 - 3 days. If 10 or more moths are caught in a week, a suitable spray should be applied 10 - 14 days later. A second spray should be applied after a second period of 10-14 days has elapsed.

If only a few moths are caught, treatment will not be required.

Note - the trap will only provide a warning that there is a problem. For small areas of peas, cover the crop with Enviromesh during the period from flowering until the pods are at least half filled. Covering with Enviromesh should give 100% control of pea maggots.
